The veteran actress says Dharmendra’s last wish was for the family to stay united, adding that they don’t do things for publicity
After Dharmendra’s demise in November 2025, there were several speculations about Dharmendra’s first family and children Sunny and Bobby Deol not bonding with Hema Malini and her daughters Esha and Ahana Deol. The family also had two separate prayer meets. Hema Malini was not seen at the prayer meet held by Sunny Deol and family at Taj Lands End in Mumbai, while the ‘Dream Girl’ actress had a prayer meet for Dharmendra in Delhi.
In a recent interview, Hema Malini has clarified that they are one happy family. In fact, she said Dharmendra’s last message to her was that the family should be united.
What Hema Malini said
When asked about Sunny and Bobby, she said, “They are wonderful boys. Very sweet. They are both nice.”
She added further, “Publicity nai karte hum log but andar se bohot judaav hai. (We don’t do things for publicity, but from the inside, we have a lot of connection and bonding. We are a happy family).”
On Dharmendra’s fake death news
In the same interview, Hema Malini also spoke about the fake news about Dharmendra’s demise before he actually passed away. She said, “Naaraz toh honge na fake news aaya toh but he’s not there only today toh kya baat karenge (Of course, we will be upset, but now he’s not there only, so what do we even talk about it now).”
The family dynamics
Hema and Dharmendra got married in 1980 and had two daughters – Esha Deol and Ahana Deol. At the time, Dharmendra was already married to Prakash Kaur and had four children with her – sons Sunny and Bobby, and daughters Ajeeta and Vijayta. Dharmendra continued to live with Prakash until the end, while Hema lived in a home right across the street.
