Los Angeles, CA – Memory is weaponised in Season 3 of Silo, the penultimate chapter of Graham Yost’s adaptation of Hugh Howey’s sci-fi trilogy. As a character says, “Loss of memory means loss of self consciousness, loss of identity, the end of personal existence.” The season weaves together two timelines—the “before times” and the present—as Juliet (Rebecca Ferguson) races to uncover the truth about the silos. While Season 2 was told from two spaces, Season 3 tells the story from two timelines, with the more we learn about trillionaire Per Stensen’s (Colin Hanks) grandiose plans, the more sense we can make of the present.
The season explores the increasing fear around nanotech, Daniel’s (Ashley Zukerman) sister Charlotte (Jessica Brown Findlay), and a conspiracy involving Senator Rosalind Thurman (Laura Innes). In the silo, Juliet’s memory loss in the first three episodes is frustrating, as she is being fed memory suppressants while we, as viewers, uncover earth-shattering details. Meanwhile, antagonists like Bernard (Tim Robbins) and Sims (Common) begin to question the diktats handed down by Silo 1. The world-building is stunning, contrasting the beige silo with its windows overlooking a ruined landscape against the green pre-apocalypse world.

Ferguson’s Juliet continues to be the force behind the show, a strong woman with an enquiring mind that cannot stop asking questions. Zukerman gives his all to the transformation from the nice, idealistic Daniel to the cold-hearted Troy, while Robbins is riveting as always. There are images that foreshadow events, and the post-credit trailer for the fourth and final season hints at a connection between Jules and Daniel. Silo Season 3 is currently streaming on Apple TV, setting the stage for an epic conclusion.
