Seoul, South Korea – The beloved office romance trope gets a fresh, ice-cold twist in the new K-drama See You At Work Tomorrow, currently midway through its run on Prime Video. The series, a webtoon adaptation, follows employees of a large electronics company tasked with perfecting a home spherical ice maker—a deceptively complex challenge that serves as a backdrop for workplace politics, existential crises, and budding romance. Leads Park Ji-hyun and Seo In-guk sat down with The Hindu ahead of the show’s release to discuss their characters, the allure of corporate life, and the weight of adapting a popular original work.
For Park Ji-hyun, who plays the earnest “clock-out fairy” Cha Ji-yoon, the role offered a chance to vicariously experience a life she had always envied. “I think I always fantasized about being a corporate employee because it’s something I have never experienced personally,” she shared. “Being able to live vicariously through my character—wear the office looks, pretend to be an office worker—it was quite rewarding.” Her character, known for clocking out as diligently as she works, navigates a rocky long-term relationship and an unhinged boss before finding her footing. Ji-hyun praised Ji-yoon’s persistence and integrity, stating, “Once Ji-yoon has her mind set on achieving something, she will go all the way… she does not give up, does her very best.”
Her co-star Seo In-guk, who portrays the straight-laced and tsundere Kang Si-woo, reveled in the character’s quick decision-making and crisis management skills. “He puts what he thinks into action very quickly and can resolve the anxiety of people around him,” In-guk noted, adding that he wanted to learn from his character. Playing a corporate employee also gave him a new appreciation for office workers. “I also wanted to give a huge shout-out to everyone who has to go to work every day because I know that it must be very challenging,” he said with a laugh. He acknowledged the camaraderie of the workplace, finding it “encouraging and motivating” to belong to a group.
Adapting a beloved webtoon, Back To Work!, came with significant pressure, admitted In-guk. “Honestly, there’s a lot of pressure,” he confessed. “These types of webtoons are created into a live-action series because there are so many fans who loved the original work… I definitely am aware of the weight of the fans’ expectations.” He emphasized the importance of recreating character elements loved by fans while also creating a unique vision for the screen. “I always try to remember to express the particular elements that were loved by fans, while also trying to create these different characters that may be based on the original webtoon, but maybe exist in a parallel universe,” he explained.
As the series unfolds, viewers are treated to the leads’ chemistry and the detailed world of office life. For fans of the genre, See You At Work Tomorrow offers a familiar yet refreshing take on love and ambition in the corporate world.
