Mumbai, India – The trailer of Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s upcoming crime-thriller, Daayra, was unveiled on Monday. Directed by Meghna Gulzar (Talvar, Raazi, Sam Bahadur), the film is inspired by true events and features a gripping narrative of justice, morality, and systemic conflict. The trailer opens with a brutal crime scene involving the disappearance of a girl, with DCP Raman Kumar (Prithviraj) and DCP Ajooni Kohli (Kareena) found on opposing sides of the law. “I work within the boundaries of law,” Ajooni tells Raman, to which he replies, “And I don’t.”
The film, written by Meghna Gulzar, Yash Keswani, and Sima Agarwal, explores the moral boundaries of justice as the two cops investigate the case from their own perspectives. The synopsis reads, “Daayra follows DCP Raman Kumar and DCP Ajooni Kohli as a case places them on opposing sides of the same system. As their paths collide, the film examines truth, accountability and the moral boundaries of justice.” The trailer promises a riveting crime-thriller with multiple perspectives, anchored by the contrasting performances of the lead actors.
Featuring music by Amit Trivedi and lyrics by Gulzar, the film has been shot by Saurabh Goswami and edited by Charu Shree Roy and Meghna Gulzar. Produced by Vineet Jain, Dhaval Gada, and Amrita Pandey, Daayra is set to release in theatres on September 18 in Hindi and Malayalam. With Meghna Gulzar’s track record of compelling storytelling and a strong cast, the film is already generating significant buzz.
