The 75-year-old Welsh singer, known for hits including ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’ and ‘Holding Out for a Hero’, was rushed to a hospital in Faro, Portugal, in early May after suffering a serious tear in her bowel . She underwent emergency surgery and was placed in an induced coma to aid her recovery .

Slow but positive progress

In a statement posted on her official website on Monday, Tyler’s family and team provided a long-awaited update on her condition.

“Bonnie is no longer in a coma but remains very unwell and in intensive care in hospital in Portugal,” the statement read. “Although her condition is improving it is a slow process. Her doctors remain confident that she will make a good recovery but it is going to take time” .

The family noted that Tyler is aware of the “huge outpouring of love and support” from fans around the world and is “very grateful” for their good wishes .

Summer tour cancelled, autumn dates uncertain

As a result of her ongoing recovery, all of Tyler’s scheduled performances through the end of August have been cancelled or postponed until next year . The statement expressed hope that her autumn shows, including a December 17 performance at Cardiff’s Utilita Arena, might still go ahead, though no guarantees were offered .

“We apologise to all of Bonnie’s fans and to our promoter partners for the disappointment that this will cause but trust that you will understand and bear with us in these difficult circumstances,” the statement continued. “We hope to see you next year instead” .

Family requests privacy

Tyler’s family has asked for privacy during this challenging time, promising to issue further updates when there are significant developments .

Earlier this month, a spokesperson for the singer expressed distress over “lurid and untrue rumours” circulating about her condition, urging fans to rely only on official communications .

The “Total Eclipse of the Heart” singer, known for her distinctive husky voice, had been scheduled for approximately two dozen shows across Europe through the end of 2026 . Tyler has previously spoken about her determination to continue performing despite her age, telling reporters she would “never retire” .
