Mumbai, India – In an exclusive interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, power couple Suriya and Jyotika opened up about their all-time favourite films, offering a refined mix of Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and English titles. The list reflects their diverse cinematic tastes, from Indian classics to Hollywood romances. Suriya, who has starred in several beloved films over his three-decade career, began by recalling director Bala’s Sethu (1999), a film that inspired him to become an actor. “When I watched this film, I thought that if at all I was going to be an actor, then this is the kind of film I need to be in,” he said.

Suriya also mentioned SS Rajamouli’s Eega as a film that pushed creative boundaries, and Lagaan as a movie that held audiences captive despite its lengthy runtime. He fondly remembered his 2003 cult film Kaakha Kaakha, co-starring Jyotika, as the first time he received a bound script, which allowed him to visualise each shot. His final pick was Dhurandhar, a recent film that left him with deep respect for its team. Jyotika’s list included Hollywood classics like The Sound of Music (1965) and James Cameron’s Titanic, which she called heartfelt. She also praised Suriya’s Pithamagan as “extraordinary” and cited The Bridges of Madison County as one of the best romances she has ever seen.

Jyotika’s most favourite film, however, was Mr. India, which she called a magical film from her growing-up years. “It’s just there in our memory. We watched it all through our growing-up years. It was a magical film,” she stated. The couple’s choices span genres and languages, reflecting their deep appreciation for cinema that moves, inspires, and entertains.
