Worldwide total approaches Rs 280 crore

‘Peddi’ has also performed strongly in overseas markets. On Day 8, the film collected approximately Rs 60 lakhs from international territories, pushing its total overseas gross to Rs 49.40 crore .

The worldwide gross collection now stands at an estimated Rs 279.35 crore, with the film within touching distance of the Rs 280 crore milestone . Trade analysts predict that ‘Peddi’ could become Ram Charan’s first solo film to cross the Rs 300 crore worldwide mark in the coming days .

Controversy and corrective measures

Despite its box office success, ‘Peddi’ has been embroiled in controversy since its release. A section of viewers and critics criticized certain scenes involving Janhvi Kapoor’s character, accusing the film of objectifying the female lead .

The backlash intensified on social media, prompting director Buchi Babu Sana to issue a public apology and confirm that corrective measures had been implemented.

“In this process, a few shots turned misleading. We have taken corrective measures to remove them, and we have removed them,” Sana told SCREEN .

The filmmakers subsequently edited the controversial scenes, and the modified version is now being screened in theatres.

About the film

‘Peddi’ is a sports action drama set in rural Andhra Pradesh during the 1980s. The story follows Peddi, a young man from a marginalized community who takes up wrestling in a fight for dignity, respect, and social recognition for his people .

The film features an ensemble cast including Shiva Rajkumar as Gournaidu, Peddi’s mentor and guiding force, along with Jagapathi Babu, Divyenndu, and Boman Irani in supporting roles . The music has been composed by A.R. Rahman, with cinematography by R. Rathnavelu .

‘Peddi’ is produced by Venkata Satish Kilaru under Vriddhi Cinemas, co-produced by Ishan Saksena under IVY Entertainment, and presented by Mythri Movie Makers and Sukumar Writings .

What’s next

With the second weekend approaching, trade analysts are closely watching whether ‘Peddi’ can regain momentum and post another strong jump at the box office. The film has already become the highest-grossing Telugu film of the year and the highest-grossing South Indian film, surpassing Suriya’s ‘Karuppu’ .

The Rs 200 crore net milestone in India is now within sight, and a solid second weekend could help the film cross the mark comfortably by Sunday.
