The bride is back. Picking up immediately after the events of 2019’s Ready or Not, where Grace (Samara Weaving) was involved in a deadly game of hide-and-seek with her satanic in-laws, the sequel sees Grace again in a fight to the death—this time with six wealthy families vying for power. With 325 gallons of fake blood, a blistering lead performance, and a wicked sense of humor, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come delivers twice the gore and double the fun.

The Plot: Double or Nothing

With the death of the Le Domas family, there is a vacuum. Six wealthy families must decide who will hold the ring of power. The ring will go to whoever kills Grace before dawn, as she defeated the Le Domas.

The twins charmingly suffocate their father, Chester (David Cronenberg), before meeting the other participants to ensure the high seat of the council is vacated for them.

Grace’s estranged sister Faith (Kathryn Newton) comes to the hospital where Grace is being treated (she was Grace’s emergency contact) and is dragged into the game to ensure Grace’s compliance.

What Works: Gore, Pacing, and Performance

SatireIt’s not a stretch to believe the rich and powerful have signed over their souls

The game begins in deadly earnest with all manner of weapons being brought into play, including an industrial washing machine, rocket launchers, katanas, and shotguns.

Incredibly gory, the film moves at a brisk pace anchored by Weaving’s blistering performance and ample support from the ensemble cast, including Elijah Wood complete with twinkling eyes as the lawyer laying down all the bloody laws for his evil client.

The Sister Dynamic

Grace’s estranged sister Faith (Kathryn Newton) adds a new emotional layer to the chaos. The two ordinary women fighting against the wealthy, powerful families provides great joy, as they best their privileged opponents.

Important Note: The Goat Survives

For those concerned about animal welfare in horror films, rest assured: the goat survives.

The Verdict

Ready or Not 2: Here I Come is a bloody, fast-paced, and wildly entertaining sequel that improves on the original in nearly every way. Samara Weaving is a force of nature, and the supporting cast—including Sarah Michelle Gellar, Kathryn Newton, and Elijah Wood—delivers. It is not a stretch to believe that the rich and powerful have signed over their souls, and there is great joy in seeing two ordinary women best them.

TAGGED: David Cronenberg, Elijah Wood, horror comedy, Kathryn Newton, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Ready or Not 2, Samara Weaving, Sarah Michelle Gellar, sequel, Tyler Gillett
